William
Schaff is showing work made
over the last six years. It represents a variety of media
and techniques - a sampling of some of the processes that
Schaff employs in the studio. His work is raw, and his ideas
develop and are captured in his sketchbook from 1999 to
2000- one he brought to his father's bedside. He also includes
fully fleshed out narratives such as The Story of Corinna
and Will and Stupidino Nel Mondo Dei Sogni
in this show.
Schaff
says, "The themes and concerns addressed in my work
can at times be very specific and personal, but not all
of my work is subjective. I think of my self as not terribly
different from anyone else and the majority of the work
for me really looks at daily experiences of everyman. To
that end, I hope that you will find here something that
resonates with you - some commonality between us."
William Schaff received
his Bachelors of Fine Art at Maryland Institute, College
of Art. He is the recipient of Rhode Island State Council
of the Arts Fellowship, Rhode Island State Council of the
Arts Project Grant, and a number of Juror's Awards. Schaff
has exhibited throughout the New England region, including
BB&Y Gallery of Baltimore, Maryland, Gallery Agniel,
AS22, Contemporary Arts Gallery, and C. Francis Gallery
of Providence, RI, and also Williamsburg Art & Historical
Center, Brooklyn, NY, Center City , and CBGB's Gallery,
New York, NY. In 2001, Schaff participated in the Fringe
Festival, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Where he is
currently studying in the MFA Jewelry program at Rhode Island
School of Design, Brandon Wallace
demonstrates a vast range of interests and materials in
his body of work in jewelry. His disposition towards experimentation
and constant inquiry is reflected in his work. Wallace describes
his working method to be without "any particular style
or with any material... I easily go from one style to another.
I am inspired by a variety of things. I can be inspired
by a song I hear or by something that is sitting on my desk,
right underneath my nose."
Wallace received his Bachelor
of Fine Arts in Ceramic, Sculpture at Alfred University,
Alfred, NY. After graduating, he participated as a Peace
Corps Volunteer in Benin, West Africa and taught English
in the Beninese secondary school system for two years. He
has shown at Charter Oak Cultural Center, Hartford, CT,
ID Gallery, Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI,
and Hans Weiss New Space Gallery at Manchester Community
College, Manchester, CT. He is the recipient of the Awards
of Excellence and John A. Chirrona Scholarship
from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. |
